Lack of access to affordable childcare across state pushes Nashville leaders to approve new legislation addressing shortage

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In Knox County, there are 271 child care centers serving more than 73,000 children up to age 12, according to the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth.

For every 1,000 children in Knox County, licensed child care centers have space for about 338 children. That capacity falls roughly in the middle compared with other counties across the state, according to the same data.
