Blount Commission will consider major summer requests for school renovations

The county is aiming to keep school projects on track this summer and not have anyone go through the roof in the process.

The Blount County Board of Commissioners advanced a series of budget requests from the Blount County School Board on Thursday during its May workshop session at the courthouse with 13 of the 21 commissioners present. A change order for the Heritage Middle roof, a replacement of the Friendsville Elementary roof and renovation of the tracks on the Heritage and William Blount grounds were capital request from Fund 177 that, if approved by the full commission May 21, will allow work to proceed over the summer while students are away for the summer break.

As the summertime window has shrunk, it’s become vital for BCS to have its bids secured and capital projects lined up for approval to maximize the contractors’ time in what is essentially a seven week window.
