Knox Co. Commission to consider appointments to juvenile justice center board

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — The Knox County Commission is expected to consider the appointments of seven people to the East Tennessee Regional Juvenile Service Center Advisory Board at its meeting on Monday night.

The board was created about 10 months ago in response to a whistleblower investigation, alleging medication mismanagement and poor leadership in the juvenile jail. The facility’s longtime superintendent, Richard Bean, resigned amid political pressure. The interim board, which consisted of five county commissioners, held its last meeting in mid-March with the new board expected to meet in July.

The new board is expected to consist of two private citizens, a health department representative, an expert in juvenile mental health, a juvenile social services expert, a juvenile legal system expert and a county commissioner…
