Knox County Commission honors retired Storm Team 6 Chief Meteorologist Matt Hinkin

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The life and legacy of former Storm Team 6 Chief Meteorologist Matt Hinkin were honored by the Knox County Commission on Monday.

The resolution to honor Hinkin passed unanimously. During the meeting, 6 News reporter Don Dare spoke about his friendship with Hinkin and read a statement from Hinkin’s son. Hinkin’s caregiver also spoke about the stories they learned from the community about the impact he had in East Tennessee.

“To hear this and to receive this, he was a humble man. He was a scientist. He loved Knoxville. He was a great father, a great husband, and a family man. As many of you know, Matt suffered a long time. Those of us who were in the studio with him, watched out for him. We knew that he was pretty bad and we helped him as much as we could. And we miss him dearly,” said Dare.

“As you well know, he totally integrated himself into the area and the people. He was also a humble guy, he never talked about all the things he did for and with the people of East Tennessee.
