Rural Metro celebrates Knox County woman’s 100th birthday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Firefighters with Rural Metro Fire paid a visit to a community member Saturday to celebrate her turning “100 years young.”

Members of the fire department surprised Thelma Vineyard at her home Saturday, wishing her a happy 100th birthday with a large bouquet of flowers.

Rural Metro is not funded by taxes, so it offers subscription-based protection where members pay an annual fee that covers its services. Vineyard has held her membership since March 1978, with her coverage carrying over from the old East Knox County Fire Department, Rural Metro explained.

“She has shown decades of dedication, loyalty, and community spirit in the Carter Community, and today we had the privilege of presenting her with flowers and heartfelt thanks for her unwavering support over the years,” Rural Metro said.
