RAYNE, La. (KLFY) — Family, friends and fellow veterans gathered in Rayne on Friday to celebrate the life of World War II veteran Prigeon Fontenot Sr., remembering him not only for his military service but also for the kindness he showed throughout his life.
Fontenot, one of Acadiana’s last living World War II veterans, served in the U.S. Army during the war. A native Cajun French speaker, he used his language skills to communicate with French civilians and Allied forces while serving in France, Belgium and Germany.
Following his service, Fontenot returned home to Rayne, where those who knew him say he continued to make a lasting impact on his community…
