OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — The city of Opelousas recently secured a $17 million revolving drinking water loan from the Louisiana Department of Health. This funding is designated to address long-standing water infrastructure issues, specifically replacing aging galvanized water lines in the city’s distribution system.
The significant investment is much needed, as the city’s water distribution system has not undergone substantial updates for many years. The funds will target galvanized water lines that have been in service for an estimated 25 to 75 years, which have contributed to ongoing water concerns for residents.
