Judge rules St. Landry Parish School Board can close Krotz Springs Elementary

OPELOUSAS, La. (NEWS 15) — A St. Landry Parish district court judge ruled on Friday in favor of the St. Landry Parish School Board, clearing the way for the closure of Krotz Springs Elementary and five other schools in the parish, a decision that drew an immediate emotional response from parents and community members.

Parents and supporters had taken the school board to court, arguing the district violated the state’s open meetings law by holding a weekend retreat on Saturday, June 13. St. Landry Parish District Court Judge Charles Cravins issued a temporary restraining order on Tuesday, July 1, preventing the board from closing Krotz Springs Elementary, but reversed course on Friday, ruling in the school board’s favor.
