(Lafayette, LA) – In the past several weeks, the Louisiana Department of Health has been informing pet owners that a pet in Acadiana was infected with rabies. The Lafayette Animal Shelter and WildCat SpayNation are teaming up to offer free rabies vaccinations through a drive-through in October.
Department officials explained to pet owners that rabies vaccination is important for the health and safety of not only pets, but people as well.

While Louisiana has rabies cases each year, they typically appear in wild animals; in this case, it was an animal in the Acadiana area.
When Is the Free Lafayette Drive-Through Rabies Vaccination for Dogs
The free dog vaccination event is now slated for Sunday, October 4. The event will be at the Cajundome Parking lot from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Enter through Gate 8, off Congress Street.

One extremely important thing to note: gates will close at 11:30 a.m. because when the event is over, it is over. We encourage you to arrive early, and if this event is like the prior event, be prepared to be patient, as you may need to line up and wait while the animals in the vehicles ahead of you get their shots.
Free DAPP Combo Vaccination at Drive-Through Lafayette Rabies Dog Clinic
The dog receiving the free rabies vaccination will also receive the DAPPv vaccine. The v stands for vaccination, and the following are the diseases that the vaccine will prevent:
- Distemper
- Adenovirus (hepatitis and kennel cough)
- Parainfluenza
- Parvovirus
