PORT BARRE, La. (NEWS 15) — A man stole a gun from a neighbor’s home and fired it both outside and inside his own home before barricading himself inside, resulting in a standoff with authorities, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Jerome Benoit, 55, of Port Barre, is charged with criminal trespass, simple assault, weapons violations, possession of stolen property, burglary, and a bench warrant for failure to appear to pay a fine.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz reported deputies responded to Current Lake Lane, which is just east of Port Barre, on Wednesday, April 1, just before 6 p.m. and learned Benoit entered a neighbor’s home, took a revolver, and began firing it outside…
