LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Actor Hick Cheramie has transitioned from 24 years of addiction and homelessness to a career in film and television, including roles in major productions like “Emancipation” and “Your Honor.” Cheramie, who achieved sobriety in 2014, currently has at least five movies scheduled for release over the next two years.
The shift in Cheramie’s life began at a treatment center in Lafayette, where he was encouraged to revisit unfulfilled childhood dreams. He identified acting as his primary goal, a dream he said had been buried during his years of chemical dependency. After beginning as a background extra, he worked his way through various roles on professional film sets to learn the industry.
Cheramie’s career began two weeks after he identified his acting aspirations. He secured his first opportunity as an extra in a local horror movie. Following that experience, he spent several years on various film sets learning different technical roles and the craft of acting.
