12th annual New Iberia Spanish Festival gets underway

NEW IBERIA, La. (NEWS 15) — The 12th annual New Iberia Spanish Festival is underway, celebrating the area’s unique Spanish Cajun heritage.

The festival opened at Bouligny Plaza in downtown New Iberia on Friday, April 17. It features authentic cuisine, including a paella and tapas cookoff, along with cultural events such as flamenco dancing, the Running of the Bulls 5K, and a Sunday parade.

“So, a lot of people don’t realize some of the names that you hear all the time: Lopez, Miguez, Segura, Vitar, Parados, there’s seven of them that founded New Iberia and they settled here and they stayed here,” Hannah Bee with the Spanish Festival said…
