WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A Polk County nonprofit is expanding a transportation program that provides free Uber rides to grocery stores and food pantries, aiming to help residents who face troubles getting around so they can get food.
We Care of Central Florida launched Project Ride to Wellness as a pilot program last October. The nonprofit, which is known for helping low-income and uninsured Polk County residents access specialty medical care, is now using the program to connect residents with groceries and food pantry services.
