LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — The Lakeland police station was briefly shut down Sunday after authorities said a “well-meaning citizen” brought in a box containing a live hand grenade.
The Lakeland Police Department said in a post around 3 p.m. that the station was closed and a perimeter had been set up while the Tampa Bomb Squad was investigating. A photo showed police tape around the front of the station.
The station and all surrounding roads were reopened about an hour and a half later after authorities safely disposed of the device, which was believed to be a grenade from the Korean War era…
