‘Second chances’ job fair is aimed at those facing employment barriers

First United Methodist Church Lakeland in Lakeland will host a Nationwide Days of Second Chances job fair on April 23.

The event is for job seekers facing barriers to employment. Those barriers can come in many forms, including homelessness, previous incarceration, lack of reliable child care or transportation or gaps on a resume, according to a news release from Better Together, a nonprofit organization presenting the job fair.

The job fair will feature employers who are prepared to interview Lakeland-area job seekers and offer jobs on the spot, giving hope to those who are struggling to break through the impersonal and unforgiving algorithms of online job applications, the release said. Employers include AARP Foundation SCSEP, Bernie Little Distributors, Lakeland Regional Health, Polk County government, Publix, Rita Staffing, Surge Staffing and Tampa Maid Foods…
