TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Did you spot an unusual ring around the sun in Tampa Bay over the weekend?
Residents from Anna Maria Island all the way to Auburndale sent in photos of a bright, perfectly circular ring around the sun that was visible for at least a few hours on Sunday afternoon.
WFLA Meteorologist Juliana Mejia explained that the phenomenon is known as a “sunbow.”
“They’re formed because of high-level clouds, cirrus clouds,” she said. “These clouds are high enough that they’re made up of ice crystals at that point, and those ice crystals just refract the sunlight and give off this halo.”…
