Police: Officer Bitten During Shoplifting Arrest at Middletown Target

A Middletown Township shoplifting call ended with an officer bitten and two people facing charges, police said this week.

What Police Say Happened

Officers were called to the Target on East Lincoln Highway just before 8 p.m. on Monday, June 22, for a reported retail theft of clothing and shoes valued at $146.25.

During the arrest, police said, Jocelynn Carothers, 38, of Langhorne, became combative and bit an officer on the forearm as the officer attempted to pick her up. The bite drew blood and caused bruising, and the officer was treated at Jefferson Bucks Hospital in Falls Township.

The Charges

Carothers is charged with attempted aggravated assault, simple assault, retail theft, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and related offenses. She was released on 10 percent of $10,000 bail.

A 39-year-old Upper Southampton Township man was also arrested and faces retail theft and marijuana-related charges. He was released on unsecured bail.
