The rocking chairs are empty, the porch is quiet, and one of the busiest stretches of Route 30 has lost a landmark that generations of Chester County families took for granted.
The Cracker Barrel Old Country Store at 1215 E. Lancaster Avenue in Downingtown is now listed as permanently closed. It was the only Cracker Barrel in Chester County.
Many residents did not see it coming, and some found out only when Google Maps flagged the location or a neighbor mentioned it on Facebook.
