Rescuers navigate challenges getting to injured person after reported assault on Susquehanna River island

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Crews underwent a challenging rescue Thursday afternoon to get to an injured person on an island by the Holtwood Dam in the Susquehanna River.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company wrote crews received a report of a person who was injured after an assault on the island just before noon.

During the rescue, rescuers made their way to the York County side of the dam, the power plant and the Muddy Creek Boat Access. Some hiked across the river from the York side, while the others also tried to make it to the patient, the post said…
