VEVEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLNS) — The Vevay Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to refuse to enter into negotiations for a data center land agreement between the township and the city of Mason.
Treasurer Christopher Lewis told the gathering before any public comment that a vote against it would be telling the city and developer to “pound sand.”
The trustees voted against negotiating a 425 agreement after nearly two hours of public comment and a packed public meeting that spilled out of the township hall meeting room, into the main hallway of the building and out both doors of the building.
A 425 agreement allows two or more municipal governments to transfer a plot of land for the purpose of an economic development — and share the resulting tax revenues. The agreements can last as long as 50 years…
