Lansing Township warns of police chief impersonation scam

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Lansing Township Police Department is warning residents that if you get a call from its chief — it might be a scam.

The department says its received reports of individuals receiving calls from a number that appears to be from its office phone number that aren’t actually from officers.

Instead, the department says the caller is spoofing the number, falsely identifying himself as Chief of Police John Joseph. The department says if you receive a call from the scammer, he may use scare tactics, say there is a legal issue requiring immediate action or request your personal or financial information…
