LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Dangerously hot temperatures across Mid-Michigan are sticking around, which means many air conditioners are working overtime. Keeping a space cool during this hot weather is essential, and for those with air conditioners, there are a couple of ways to keep it running efficiently.
Local air conditioning and heating service Hager-Fox shared some tips with me, including scheduling maintenance sooner rather than later to help prevent problems before they start. The company also recommends keeping your home at a consistent level and keeping doors and windows closed to improve your air conditioner’s efficiency.
Ricardo Gonzalez, an Install Supervisor at Hager-Fox, says that the biggest thing that homeowners can do is keep their unit and air filter clean, something most people can do themselves.
“If you’ve got a dirty air filter, it’s not going to run. It’s not going to let the air circulate through your house properly, which is going to cause freezing on your coils,” says Gonzalez. “An outside dirty unit will cause a lot of issues, too. So, you could even take a hose spray now, to get some of that pollen and dust and debris off in there to help the airflow.”…
