LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — As lettuce recalls continue making national headlines, state agriculture leaders say Michigan farmers are giving consumers something many grocery stores cannot — the opportunity to ask questions directly to the people who grow their food.
At the Farmers Market at the Capitol on Tuesday, shoppers browsed fresh fruits, vegetables and other Michigan-made products while learning more about where their food comes from.
For Sharon Ostrowski, a local produce vendor, questions about food safety have become a regular part of the job.
“100 times a day,” Ostrowski said. “That is their first question all the time.”…
