LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning of a significant increase in emergency room visits linked to frequent marijuana use, tied to a condition known as cannabis hyperemesis syndrome.
Cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, or CHS, is a painful illness caused by long-term, frequent cannabis use. It produces sudden episodes of nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Tracking improves with new diagnostic code
Historically, CHS went largely undiagnosed, appearing in roughly one out of every 3,000 emergency room visits. A new diagnostic code has since allowed for better medical tracking and clinical recognition.
