VEVAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (News 10) – Property owners in Vevay Township have applied to annex more than 400 acres of land to the city of Mason to build a proposed data center.
Annexation request
The application follows months of back-and-forth talks on the proposal at the city level. In the request document, the attorney representing the property owners said the request meets the standards for annexation according to state law and that annexing the land and building the center would significantly increase Mason’s tax revenue.
Community opposition
Some community members remain opposed to the project.
Paula Caltrider grew up in Mason, and her parents live across the field from the proposed development. She has been opposed to bringing a data center to Mason and said she feels the voices of the community haven’t been heard.
“Obviously, we know that we can’t tell a property owner what to do with their property,” Caltrider said. “I think what the problem is, is that they are not looking at how they’re making the area unsafe for the people that live there.”…
