Group working to get Lansing’s truck-eating Big Penny ‘smiling’ once again

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Lansing’s iconic Big Penny could soon have her eyes and teeth restored.

The notoriously low truck-eating bridge was defaced back in April. Since then, the Society for Totally Useless Pranks and Immature Dumbassery – Lansing (STUPID) has been working to restore her, it said in a Friday social media post.

But as the group got close to installing eyes and teeth made out of stainless steel hardware and PVC, the Canadian National Railroad — which operates the railroad that goes above Big Penny, according to its website —  reached out with safety concerns.

“Though they did not remove the first version of Big Penny they advised that if we attached anything else to the bridge without their approval it would likely be removed, and they could possibly pursue criminal charges,” STUPID wrote on social media
