This scene of a foggy morning in Lansing’s REO Town was the spark that sent photographer Robert Killips on a yearlong journey to capture the vibrancy and personality of the burgeoning neighborhood.
A decade ago, REO Town was a far second to the Old Town neighborhood to the north. Now its bustling main thoroughfare welcomes regulars and visitors alike.
Hang out and enjoy the coffee
Blue Owl Coffee has become an anchor for local students, business people and residents of the neighborhood. Opened in 2017, it’s a great place to get caffeinated and congregate with friends. Next door you’ll find Saddleback BBQ and REO Town Pub. It’s a busy little corner at Washington Avenue and South Street.
A space for creativity
Dylan Rogers is owner of the Robin Theatre , which also has a bookstore inside. Rogers and his wife, Jeanna-Dee Allen, bought the 100-year-old building in 2015 and, with a lot of sweat equity, turned it into a community gathering place.
