State-ranked Mason had six wrestlers capture championships while having a strong showing at a Division 2 individual district at Pinckney on Saturday.
The champions for No. 4-ranked Mason included Darius Ambs at 120 pounds, Matt Ausel at 126, Tex Smith at 144, Gavin VanKirk at 157, AJ Martel at 175 and Derek Badgley at 175.
DeWitt and Fowlerville were the other Greater Lansing programs that had multiple champions at the district. DeWitt had a trio of champions in Trenden Bashore (132), Kaden Lapaugh (138) and Tyler Bashore (150). The champions for Fowlerville were Matt Jeffrey (106) and Layne O’Neil (190).
The other area champions included Waverly’s Cayden Bell at 215 and St. Johns’ Ryan Dimmick at 285.
Division 1 at Jackson
Grand Ledge followed its team district championship Wednesday by having a pair of wrestlers claim individual titles. Sophomore Logan Tollison was the champion at 215, while sophomore Eben Abdo claimed the title at 120 pounds for Grand Ledge. The other area champion was Okemos’ Kaleb Smith-Baldwin, who won at 132.
