Googly eyes take over Lansing

LANSING Mich. (WLNS) – If you’re walking around Lansing you may feel like somebody’s watching you. However, it’s just steam pipes with googly eyes, and there’s a group of artists putting these eyes on objects all over town

6 News got people’s reaction to the extra sets of eyes. Toni Tucker was surprised.

“My first thought was what the heck is that? And I’m still wondering what the heck is that.” Tucker Continued, “I hope it’s not eyes just watching us to make sure that we’re not doing anything we’re supposed to do.”

Don’t worry, you’re safe from big brother, the eyes are just stickers. Jay Briones didn’t spot them at first, but once he did they reminded him of something.

“It kind of reminds me of one of those inflatable people,” Briones said.

One of the artists who wants to remain anonymous so the art can have an identity of its own said the goal of the eyes is to make Lansing smile. It all started with a set of eyes on the Pennsylvania bridge, also known as Big Penny, and now the bridge has lots of friends. Briones said he would like to see the eyes stand out more.
