Deadly East Lansing officer-involved shooting under investigation

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting that took place Wednesday evening after officers were called out for a theft and stabbing in East Lansing.

6 News first learned of the incident from East Lansing City Councilman Mark Meadows, who announced that an officer had been involved a shooting at Wednesday’s East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission following commissioner complaints that Police Chief Jen Brown left the meeting.

Wednesday evening, law enforcement called a press conference to discuss the incident and the investigation thus far. 6 News on the scene saw members of the East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission attempt to attend the event, but all were turned away at the door save for Chris Root and Kathy Swedlow.

At the press conference, Brown reported officers were dispatched to a business in the area of Lake Lansing and Abbot roads at 6:06 p.m. for a reported theft…
