EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – A Michigan attorney has been identified as the victim of Wednesday night’s stabbing that led to a deadly officer-involved shooting in East Lansing.
In a statement to News 10 Thursday afternoon, a spokesperson for the law firm Foster Swift confirmed attorney Douglas Mielock, 63, was stabbed and underwent surgery. Police have not publicly confirmed the victim’s identity.
“Foster Swift wants to address the unfortunate incident involving Foster Swift attorney Douglas Mielock, who was the victim of a random act of violence yesterday evening near Abbott and Lake Lansing Roads,” the statement said. “His injuries did require surgery. Doug is currently recovering. Both Doug and his family are deeply grateful for the outpouring of care and concern from the community.”
“While the Mielock family and Foster Swift appreciates the care and support, they respectfully request privacy as Doug focuses on his recovery,” the statement said. “Thank you for your understanding and respect for the family’s wishes. We will provide updates as appropriate.”
