Child struck near Okemos school prompts safety reminder for drivers

OKEMOS, Mich. (WILX) – Police are reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert in school zones after a child was struck by a vehicle last week at a busy Okemos intersection.

The crash happened near Okemos and Bennett roads during the morning rush, when school buses, parents, and commuters share the road.

“Understand that when you’re in these school zones or near these school zones, there’s going to be foot traffic and there’s going to be kids crossing the street,” said Meridian Township Police Chief Rick Grillo…
