LANSING (WLNS) — AAA’s Auto Club Group is reporting the average price of gas in the Greater Lansing area is $4.76 as of Thursday — 48 cents higher than it was on Wednesday.
The surge can be attributed in part to the brief unplanned closure of a major BP oil refinery in Whiting, IN, which experienced a power outage on Sunday. The refinery is considered vital to the supply of fuel to the entire Midwest.
“With this outage right now, we have to see how long it’s going to take for the refineries to get back up to speed,” said Auto Club Group representative Adrienne Woodland. “Once that [happens], we could possibly see a little stabilization in prices.”…
