Lansing truck driver named ‘Highway Angel’ after saving driver from crash

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Truckload Carriers Association has named Wade Dickinson, a truck driver from Lansing, a Highway Angel for his efforts to save another truck driver after they were seriously injured in a crash in Illinois.

At around 3:00 a.m. on April 3, Dickinson saw a truck “come through a tree line,” which began to overturn near Clinton, Illinois, according to the association. Dickinson narrowly avoided colliding with the out-of-control truck. After the near miss, he pulled over and ran toward the crash.

Dickinson found an injured driver trapped in the sleeping quarters of the truck, bleeding heavily from a severe wrist injury. He then climbed into the wreckage and pulled the driver to safety. He created an improvised tourniquet to stop the bleeding until first responders arrived.

“I saw him way back in the bunk… I didn’t know if the truck was going to catch on fire,” Dickinson said in an article shared by the association. “I just knew I had to get him out.”…
