Traffic was stalled on northbound I-11 near Horizon Ridge Drive, according to RTC FastCam data cited by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which first reported that the fatal crash was under investigation Thursday afternoon in the southeast Las Vegas Valley. The outlet’s reporting, credited to Tony Garcia, indicates the freeway remains closed at Horizon Ridge as the highway patrol works to clear the scene. No details on the number of vehicles involved, victim identities, or a possible cause have been released.
A Corridor Built for Speed, Now a Recurring Trouble Spot
The stretch of I-11 running through Henderson was designed to move regional traffic quickly around local surface streets. The 15-mile Interstate 11 Boulder City Bypass, connecting Henderson to the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge, opened in August 2018 as a 600 million dollar project meant to route high-speed intercity traffic away from downtown corridors, as Hoodline has previously reported. Thursday’s closure is only the latest in a string of serious incidents along the corridor this year. In April, a 30-year-old Henderson motorcyclist was killed on southbound I-11 near Tropicana Avenue after rear-ending a pickup truck at high speed, a crash that marked the Nevada Highway Patrol’s 24th traffic fatality of 2026 in Southern Nevada, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
