Lawrenceville House Fire Sends 2 to Hospital in Critical Condition After Basement Blaze
Early Friday morning, a Lawrenceville home on Park Place Drive became the kind of scene no neighborhood wants to wake up to. Flames deep in the basement. One person trapped. And not a single smoke alarm going off inside the house.
Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services responded around 6:50 a.m. to the 200 block of Park Place Drive. Three occupants had already made it out. But a fourth person was still inside, in the basement, exactly where the fire was burning hardest.
How the Rescue Unfolded
Firefighters went in and pulled the person out. That part worked. What did not work was the system that should have bought them more time.
According to fire officials, the smoke alarms in the home were not activated at the time of the fire. The four people asleep inside were only woken up because neighbors knocked on their door after calling 911. That knock was the only warning they got.
Two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Five adults and one dog were displaced. The American Red Cross was called in to help. The house took heavy damage across the basement, first floor, and attic…
