UPDATE: Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 8:41 a.m.
Georgia State Patrol authorities say a driver has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the end of police pursuit along I-985 in Flowery Branch late Monday, leading to the closure of an exit ramp during overnight hours for investigation.
AccessWDUN received a press release from Georgia State Patrol (GSP) after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning that said:
“On April 27, 2026, at 8:53 p.m., a Trooper observed a Jeep SUV traveling north on I-985 and checked the SUV at 96 mph in a 70 mph zone. A traffic stop was initiated, and the vehicle came to a stop on the exit ramp near mile marker 12. As the Trooper prepared to exit his patrol vehicle, the driver suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Trooper immediately notified Troop B Communications and attempted to render aid, but the vehicle doors were locked. Other Troopers arrived shortly after and used a window punch to break the rear driver-side window so they could gain access to the vehicle. Once inside, they found the driver had died from his injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation. Any further inquiries should be directed to their agency.”…
