When I plan a day trip, I like to find the destination, then determine what will be the drawing card at the destination. I then figure out what we’ll do in addition to the main point of the trip. Often, the main point is a unique, or just a really good, restaurant. Fortunately, Kentucky rises to the occasion in this regard.
Moonlite BBQ
When I searched for Kentucky restaurants with weird menu items, the first one that came up surprised me. It’s Moonlite BBQ Inn right here in Owensboro. In fact, it was once featured on Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods. And yes, it was because they famously serve mutton, which is the meat from sheep and sometimes lamb. Here in Daviess County, you can’t throw a rock without hitting someone who loves it…like me. But folks from outside our “mutton realm” often turn their noses up at even trying it. I will never understand that.
610 Magnolia was also featured on Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods. It’s in Louisville, and it features a gourmet menu with items you’re not going to find just anywhere. When Bizarre Foods host Andrew Zimmer visited, he was there for wild game…
