Kentucky Treasury aims to reunite Lexington residents with $45M in unclaimed property

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Kentucky State Treasury is working to reconnect Lexington residents with even more valuable unclaimed property after officials announced that the department had officially surpassed $100 million in returned assets.

In a June 23 news release, officials called the achievement under Treasurer Mark Metcalf “a record-setting milestone achieved faster than any previous administration in Kentucky history.”

Metcalf’s office said that the work to reunite Kentuckians with their unclaimed property was far from over, with more than $45 million available for Fayette County residents to claim during a two-day outreach event in Lexington.

“Many Kentuckians are surprised to learn they have funds waiting to be recovered, including forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, utility deposits, and other assets,” members of the Kentucky State Treasury wrote…
