‘He helped everybody’: Family remembers Madison County flood victim

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) – The family of Garnett Isbell, one of the Madison County residents who died in last weekend’s flooding, said he was a people person who never met a stranger.

His niece, Tiffany Jones, said she believes Isbell was driving through floodwater Saturday to check on his neighbors when his vehicle was swept away.

“Not one of us would have ever imagined he was gone, and then just finding that out, my heart ripped, just ripped right out because he’s such an integral part of who we are as a family,” Jones said.

Isbell was a decorated U.S. Army veteran who served tours in Germany, Korea and Saudi Arabia. He earned several medals, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star…
