Lexington church faces backlash after vacation bible school video goes viral

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A Lexington church is facing online backlash after a vacation bible school video showing young children watching a skit with air rifles went viral on TikTok and Facebook.

The video showed people portraying soldiers carrying air rifles and shooting at someone dressed as the devil on a staircase as young children watched and chanted “take him out, blow him up.” The video was taken down from TikTok, but reposts remain on several social media platforms.

Many viewers, both in the comments and those who reposted the video, called it disturbing and violent.

Pastor responds

In a Facebook video, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Pastor Dewayne Walker said the skit is a 32-year-old tradition and that he did not mean to offend anyone. Walker said his intended message was one of spiritual warfare, encouraging children to reject the devil…
