Lexington police officer crashes cruiser texting and driving, resigns

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Lexington police officer has resigned after body-camera video revealed the cause of a crash in his cruiser.

Lexington Police Department records show that a formal misconduct complaint was filed in January following a crash involving Officer Marcus Olmstead. Around 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 11, Olmstead was on duty driving his cruiser on Alexandria Drive when he rear-ended another vehicle.

The crash was captured on Olmstead’s body-worn camera.

“They stopped so quick,” Olmstead can be heard saying. “Are you okay? Why’d you stop?”…
