LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Drivers along the I-64/I-75 corridor in Lexington are currently navigating two separate construction projects as part of a state initiative the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet calls “Driving Lexington Progress.” The first phase of construction began in 2022.
The work will widen the interstate from three to four lanes in each direction. Once complete, the project will also include a new median barrier wall, new sound walls and bridge deck repairs. The total investment for the stretch of roadway is $89 million.
What drivers can expect in the coming weeks
Logan Murphy, with KYTC Construction District 7, said the final surface work is approaching.
“What you will see in the next month is some of that final surface begin going on the interstate project — you’re going to see those four lanes going in each direction take shape and that’s going to increase the capacity of the roadway, help with the safety of the traveling public through that very busy corridor,” Murphy said…
