LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — When people think of Kentucky restaurant chains, KFC often comes to mind first. But several other national chains got their starts in Lexington.
Chains that began in Lexington
Long John Silver’s opened in 1969 on Southland Drive. The chain is the nation’s largest fast food seafood restaurant. While no Lexington locations remain, one recently opened just across the county line in Nicholasville.
Fazoli’s also traces its roots to Lexington. Originally called Gratzi’s, the Italian fast-food chain opened in 1988 and now operates more than 200 locations across 28 states, though it has closed several in recent years.
