The Kentucky Wildcats took on the Tennessee Volunteers and lost 103-92 without their starting point guard.
Kentucky shot the basketball well putting up 92 points, but Tennessee could not be stopped hitting the century mark. It was a game where the entire city of Lexington was pumped up, hoping for the Cats to get a big win, but they couldn’t get it done. Kentucky went 0-2 on the week and very well could drop out of the rankings when the AP Poll comes out on Monday.
Kentucky was without DJ Wagner in both of the games this week, which is hurting the Wildcats guard depth. Against Tennessee, both Rob Dillingham and Reed Sheppard played well, but they had to play a ton of minutes with Wagner out once again. Sheppard has done an excellent job running the point with Wagner out, but the Wildcats need that depth back. Kentucky is now 0-3 without Wagner, and although the Wildcats didn’t lose those games strictly because he was out, it does show he is valuable to this team. The Wildcats need to be healthy heading into postseason play.
