Lexington recovery community center says work isn’t done, even though overdose deaths continue to drop

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — After years of devastating losses tied to drug overdoses, Kentucky is continuing to see signs of progress.

State leaders announced overdose deaths dropped 22.9 percent in 2025 compared to the year before — marking the fourth straight year of declines and the lowest number of overdose deaths recorded in the commonwealth since 2014.

Governor Andy Beshear called the numbers encouraging, while also reminding Kentuckians that more than 1,100 people still lost their lives to overdoses last year.

“While we take pride in the progress we’ve made, we also mourn the 1,110 Kentuckians who lost their lives last year to a drug overdose,” Beshear said during a Team Kentucky update announcing the new data…
