LINCOLN–(News Release June 18)–Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird today said pension and retirement plan enhancements offered to Lincoln’s first responders demonstrate her administration’s prioritization of public safety and the City’s commitment to compensate police and fire personnel for the critical service they provide to the community.
The City has offered a $60,000 one-time pension enhancement to the Police and Fire Unions and to non-union department leadership, effective September 2026. Also, effective September 2027, new first responder employees will be eligible to receive a 2% cost of living adjustment when they retire.
Current staff participating in the City retirement plan may direct $60,000 from the City toward one of the following:
- the purchase of a cost of living adjustment of .5% to 3%;
- a Post Employment Health Program; or
- a 457b retirement plan with three annual installments of $20,000.
The Lincoln Police Union has already accepted the enhancement and the new retirement plan, meaning all current commissioned law enforcement officers and non-union LPD leadership are eligible to receive it…
