Nebraska Cornhuskers news: New slugger, very special special-teamer, more

The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team continued rebuilding the team that hosted its first regional in almost two decades over the weekend by adding a powerful Transfer Portal slugger. Kellan Burke comes to Lincoln after one season at Cloud County Community College in Kansas.

Before he played college baseball, he was also the North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year. In other words, he was considered the best player in the state for his recruiting class.

Burke was also named to the All-Tournament Team for the 2026 NJCAA Division I Plains District Baseball Tournament. He batted 5-for-9 in the tournament with two home runs, six runs scored, and 4 RBI. He won the 2025 North Dakota Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year after batting .557 with three home runs, 27 RBI, and 33 runs scored. He also recorded 10 stolen bases and threw out over 53 percent of would-be base-stealers from behind the plate. He’s an interesting wild card pickup for the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team.
