LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The man accused in the deaths of a Stromsburg couple and their unborn baby will undergo a competency evaluation to determine if he is mentally fit to stand trial.
According to court documents filed Friday, attorneys for 24-year-old Sterling James filed a motion asking for an evaluation. The court responded, ordering that he be examined and evaluated at the Lincoln Regional Center.
His scheduled arraignment for Wednesday morning was continued to Aug. 19.
James is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, first-degree murder of an unborn child and tampering with evidence. He is being held without bond, and his murder charges carry the potential for the death penalty…
