Widespread rain, storms west overnight meander closer to home Friday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – More moisture is on the way with widespread showers in central Nebraska overnight into early Friday and a few thunderstorms by Friday afternoon.

First though, A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk highlights portions of the Panhandle for the potential at a couple stronger storms that may bring some gusty winds and hail up to around 1″.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for almost a handful of counties out in western Nebraska until 10 p.m. MDT Thursday night.

Tonight through Friday: Showers and thunderstorms will spread across the area from west to east.

South-central Nebraska and the Tri-Cities could see a wet morning commute Friday before storms weaken. Lincoln will see the best chance for rain in the mid to late morning Friday. A few thunderstorms remain possible Friday afternoon as a small amount of instability develops, but no severe weather is anticipated.

Rain amounts will be modest — expect a tenth to a quarter inch, with some areas possibly reaching a half inch.

Keep expectations in check, though. Lincoln will likely see closer to a quarter inch when all is said and done by Friday night.

Temperatures will remain cooler in the 60s due to rain and cloud cover.
